Be Green to the Environment, Gracious to the Staff and Public

That is the message that BCA is sending to the construction Industry. First launched in February 2009, BCA's Green and Gracious Builder Scheme (GGBS) is to promote environment protection and gracious practices during the construction phase of projects.

Some Examples of Green and Gracious Builder Scheme (GGBS)

Green

  • Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
  • Optimising usage of resources
  • Minimising construction waste
  • Housekeeping efforts

Gracious

  • Looking after the well-being of staff
  • Keeping site surrounding safe for the public
  • Managing noisy activities on site

There are two types of GGBS:

GGBS Version 2.1

  • For large contractors (CRS financial grade "A" and "B")
  • Focuses on both green and gracious practices
  • Ratings of Certified, Merit, Excellent, and Star
  • Minimum "Certified" rating
  • Mandatory Requirement in BCA's Contractors Registry System (CRS) for Contractors with workheads CW01 (General Building) and CW02 (Civil Engineering), financial grades from A1 to B2

GGBS for Small and Medium Construction Firms (SMC)

  • For small & medium contractors (CRS financial grade "C")
  • Focuses on gracious and applicable green practices
  • Ratings of Certified and Merit
  • Currently GGBS (SMC) is on voluntary basis. However, it is a matter of time before it is made mandatory for Contractors with CRS financial grade C.
